Rich Smith, MD, FACS is the chief of Surgical Oncology and the Assistant Program Director for the General Surgery Residency at Tripler Army Medical Center. He is on active duty in the US Army and holds the title of Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is fellowship trained in Surgical Oncology from Roswell Park Cancer Center.
He has served 4 combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is the State Chair of Hawaii for the Commission on Cancer and serves on the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee and Health Care Quality & Outcomes Committee for the Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. He is a clinical member of the University of Hawaii Cancer Center. He serves on the executive council for the Hawaii chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
