Maj Valerie Sams is a trauma surgeon in the United States Air Force stationed at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) where she serves as the medical director for the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). She is currently deployed as the Trauma Czar to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. She was awarded her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada and completed her general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. She completed her Acute Care Surgery Fellowship at SAMMC.
Maj Sams specializes in trauma and critical care as well as general surgery. She has an active interest in trauma and acute care surgery related research with several active investigations. She is also a member of the Extracorporeal Life Support team at SAMMC. She is a program committee member for the Military Surgical Symposium at SAGES, of which she is an active member.
